05 Jul 2016 — Rui Santos led all drivers most for 18 of 26 laps on a run for second place in the Botniaring Racing Circuit FR14 in Round 3 of the Formula Renault 3.5 series.
Santos traded positions with Tom Vernay in a determined fight for second nearing the finale, passing each other twice over a range of eight laps. Santos spent nearly equal parts leading Vernay after being caught by him on lap 18. After losing the spot on lap 23, Santos cleared Vernay and into second place when Vernay retired on lap 25, and controlled it the final lap to the conclusion.
Santos moves up to second in the standings, six points behind Matej Dakskobler. Santos has two starts and led 18 of his 51 laps while finishing as high as second.
Formula Renault 3.5 series moves on to Round 4 in a week at Brno Circuit. The series has 14 drivers competing for points in the championship.
