07 Jul 2016 — Nuno Miguel Abreu won third place in the Istanbul Park FBMW in Round 5 of the Winter Races series.
Miguel Abreu wrestled the advantage back and forth with Mike Dos Santos in a lengthy and unrelenting battle for third starting midway through, running within a bumper of each other over a span of 10 laps and changing positions three times. Driving the Formula BMW, Miguel Abreu spent nearly equal parts leading Dos Santos after engaging and passing him on the fourth lap, coming from as many as three places back. After losing the spot on lap 11, Miguel Abreu passed Dos Santos for the second time and into third place on lap 12, and kept it the remaining lap to the finish.
Miguel Abreu remains in second in the standings, cutting the gap to first’s Mike Dos Santos to six points. Miguel Abreu has three starts and led 31 of his 47 laps while taking the victory twice.
Winter Races series moves on to Round 6 in a week at Mugello Circuit. The series has 39 drivers competing for points in the championship.
Mike Dos Santos leads the championship in a tight campaign over Nuno Miguel Abreu, separated by just a few grid spots. The Top 5 places are an open ring for 39 drivers in the running with three races remaining.
