24 Aug 2016 — Nuno Gaiteira won eighth place in the Braga Vasco Sameiro SSC10 in Round 2 of the Suzuki World CUP series.

Gaiteira ran all of 12 laps total pursuing Carl Schulz after targeting him on the first lap. Driving the Suzuki Swift ’10, Gaiteira launched a prolonged attack at Schulz midway through, staying within a straightaway behind him and gaining ground over an unbroken run of 10 laps. In the end Gaiteira settled into eighth the couple laps running to the finish, missing Mark Carty ahead by just 0.357 seconds at the line.

Gaiteira is 12th in the standings for the series. He has two starts and finished as high as eighth.

Suzuki World CUP series moves on to Round 3 in a week at Calder Park Raceway. The series has 20 drivers competing for points in the championship.

Adolfo Onrubia leads the championship in a tight campaign over Luis Fernandes, separated by just a single grid spot. The title continues to be challenged by Ricardo Gomes, Manuel Alves, Porfirio Dias Santos, Alaoui Nassim, Carl Schulz, Miguel Teixeira, Rafael Iwata, Mark Carty, Mateusz Stasiak, Nuno Gaiteira, Luís Almeida, Mark Craggs, José Sousa, Ahmad Sayyidan, Jose Pereira, C Naiman, Flávio Carvalho, and Juan Puyo as well. The Top 5 places are an open battleground for 20 drivers in the running with four races remaining.
