12 Aug 2016 — Nuno Gaiteira took fourth place in the Eastern Creek Lupo in the opening round of the Lupo Challenge series.
Gaiteira traded positions with Rafael Iwata in a long and persistent battle for third from the middle stages, passing each other twice over a range of 11 laps. Gaiteira drove the majority pursuing Iwata after targeting him on the fifth lap, coming from as many as three positions back. Gaiteira launched a prolonged attack at Iwata midway through, staying within a lap behind him and gaining ground over a continuous run of seven laps. Ultimately Gaiteira settled into fourth the seven laps running to the conclusion.
Lupo Challenge series moves on to Round 2 in a week at Barber Motorsports Park – Short. The series has four drivers competing for points in the championship.
Fernando Silva leads the championship in a tight campaign over Ricardo Gomes, separated by just a couple finishing positions. The title continues to be challenged by Rafael Iwata and Nuno Gaiteira as well. The Top 5 places are an open field for four drivers in the running with six races remaining.
