07 Nov 2016 — Nuno Gaiteira raced past the checkered flag a narrow 0.242 seconds ahead of Mark Carty to take fourth place in the Charade Polo93 in the fifth and final round of the VW Polo Trophy Season 4 series.
Gaiteira traded positions back and forth with Joao Botelho De Sousa in a relentless battle for fourth starting early on, running within a car length of each other over a stretch of nine laps and changing positions three times. Gaiteira drove nearly equal parts leading Botelho De Sousa after engaging and passing him on the third lap. After losing the spot on lap 8, Gaiteira passed Botelho De Sousa for the second time and into fourth place on lap 11, and kept it the remaining lap to the pulse-pounding finish with Carty.
Gaiteira finished the series in front of the standings. Gaiteira made five starts and led 19 of his 97 laps while taking the victory once.
VW Polo Trophy Season 4 series finished its season after five rounds spanning a little more than a month. A total of 19 drivers competed for points in the championship.
Nuno Gaiteira captured the championship in a tight campaign over Ricardo Gomes, separated by just a single grid spot in the end. Gaiteira led 19 laps and took one victory in five races. Ricardo Gomes and Mark Carty finished within a race of the title. Luís Almeida and Porfirio Dias Santos finished out the Top 5.
