25 Oct 2016 — Nuno Gaiteira captured ninth place in the Zandvoort ’79 F1’71 in Round 4 of the 1971 Virtual Formula 1 Championship series.
Gaiteira took the fight back and forth with Carl Schulz in a long and tense battle for seventh starting early on, running within a car length of each other over a range of 19 laps. Gaiteira ran the majority pursuing Schulz after targeting him on the first lap. Ultimately Gaiteira settled into ninth the few laps before retiring early due to dnf trouble.
Gaiteira drops to seventh in the standings, three points behind Francis Cabrera. Gaiteira has four starts and finished as high as fifth.
1971 Virtual Formula 1 Championship series moves on to Round 5 in a week at Paul Ricard ’75. The series has 12 drivers competing for points in the championship.
Matt Geddes leads the championship. The title continues to be challenged by Carl Schulz, Jari Bruppacher, Gerardo Doglioli, Bruno Chacon, Francis Cabrera, Nuno Gaiteira, Rafael Iwata, Porfirio Dias Santos, Luís Almeida, Mark Carty, and Yahya Zakari. The Top 5 places are an open battleground for 12 drivers in the running with seven races remaining.
