18 Oct 2016 — Nuno Gaiteira captured fifth place in the Monaco ’79 F1’71 in Round 3 of the 1971 Virtual Formula 1 Championship series.
Gaiteira swapped leads with Jari Bruppacher in a determined battle for fifth starting early on, running within car lengths of each other over a range of seven laps and changing positions two times. Gaiteira ran nearly equal parts leading Bruppacher after being engaged by him on the first lap. After losing the spot on lap 3, Gaiteira got around Bruppacher and into fifth place on lap 6, and kept it the remaining 15 laps to the finish.
Gaiteira moves up to fourth in the standings, two points behind Bruno Chacon. Gaiteira has three starts and finished as high as fifth.
1971 Virtual Formula 1 Championship series moves on to Round 4 in a week at Zandvoort ’79. The series has 11 drivers competing for points in the championship.
