16 Dec 2016 — Martin Buchan led every lap from first-place start to first-place finish in the WEGTE class in the Estoril ’88 Multiclass in Round 6 of the Virtual Le Mans Series.
Driving the BMW Z4 GTE, Buchan drove nearly all of 30 laps total leading Tobias Mueller after being engaged by him on the first lap. Buchan controlled the race lead every lap from green flag to win.
Buchan finished the series second in the WEGTE class standings. Buchan made two starts and led 53 of his 53 laps while taking the win twice.
Virtual Le Mans Series finished its season after six rounds spanning two months. A total of 45 drivers competed for points in the multiclass championships.
Tobias Mueller captured the WEGTE class championship, leading 57 laps and taking two wins in four races. Martin Buchan, Mark Carty, Matt Geddes, and Roberto Boniotti finished out the Top 5.
Ville Hartikainen took the WEP2 class championship in a tight campaign over Brian Fairley, separated by just a single finishing position in the end. Hartikainen led 56 laps and took two victories in two races. Brian Fairley, Alex Freitas, Ricardo Gomes, Porfirio Dias Santos, Nicolo Bertolotti, Rafael Iwata, Bruno Chacon, Toni Talvitie, and Fahn Thomas finished within a race of the title.
