16 Jul 2009 — Mario Rocha took seventh place in the Kentucky Showdown in the opening round of the Stock Car Showdown [Euro] series.
Rocha traded positions multiple rounds with Michael Virt in a lengthy and unrelenting battle for seventh from the middle stages, running within an apex of each other over a span of 35 laps. Rocha drove nearly equal parts leading Virt after being caught by him on lap 17. After losing the spot on lap 52, Rocha passed Virt for the third time and into seventh place on lap 55, and held it the remaining few laps to the checkered flag.
Stock Car Showdown [Euro] series moves on to Round 2 in two weeks at Fort Worth Speedway. The series has nine drivers competing for points in the championship.
Tom Malanga leads the championship in a tight campaign over Carlos Garcia, separated by just a few grid spots. The title continues to be challenged by Tom Zborill, Daniel S Gomes, James Goldsbrough, Charles Davis, Mario Rocha, Michael Virt, and Jim Barisoff as well. The Top 5 places are an open battleground for nine drivers in the running with five races remaining.
