08 Jan 2009 — Mario Rocha took 22nd place in the Beetle: Birmingham #1 in the opening round of the Beetle Blast series.

Rocha started the race in the 22nd place and was caught by James Linton for 20th on lap 8. Ultimately Rocha settled into 22nd the few laps running to the conclusion.

Beetle Blast series moves on to Round 2 later this day at Barber Motorsports Park. The series has 29 drivers competing for points in the championship.

Joaquin Perez leads the championship in a tight campaign over Raphael Nunes, separated by just a single grid position. The title continues to be challenged by Barney Fox, Eduardo Prado, Pablo Martinez, Marcos Rodriguez, Rogier De Klein, Alfredo Chiva, Francisco Gutierrez, Dave Robinson, Silvino Rodrigues, Jacobo Segade, Jorge Hernandes, Sam Moss, Nikola Vrhovski, James Linton, Diego Lebed, Stefan Persson, Sam Emmett, Daniel S Gomes, Carlos Garcia, Alessandro Barbieri, Arvind Kasale, Antonio Torquemada, Javier Cases, Mario Rocha, Robson Cardoso, Kim Diedrichsen, and Marcus Otto as well. The Top 5 places are an open field for 29 drivers in the running with 23 races remaining.
