21 Oct 2016 — Luís Almeida won ninth place in the WEP2 class in the Imola ’94 Multiclass in Round 2 of the Virtual Le Mans Series.
Driving the Zytek Z11SN, Almeida swapped leads with Jason Whited in a drawn-out fight for ninth from the middle stages, wrangling over a stretch of 23 laps. Almeida ran nearly equal parts leading Whited after being engaged by him on the second lap. After losing the spot on lap 13, Almeida passed Whited and into ninth place on lap 23, and held it the remaining few laps to the conclusion.
Almeida drops to ninth in the WEP2 class standings, now tied in points with 10th’s Paulo Neto following Neto’s fifth-place finish. Almeida has two starts and finished as high as sixth.
Virtual Le Mans Series moves on to Round 3 in two weeks at RedbullRing / A1 Ring. The series has 20 drivers competing for points in the multiclass championships.
Tobias Mueller leads the WEGTE class championship in a tight campaign over Fahn Thomas, separated by just a handful of finishing positions. The title continues to be challenged by Roberto Boniotti, Gary Murray, Tim Weller, Nuno Gaiteira, Scott Ring, Luis Fernandes, Mark Carty, and Jason Whited as well. The Top 5 places are an open ring for 10 drivers in the running with four races remaining.
Porfirio Dias Santos leads the WEP2 class championship in a tight campaign over Ricardo Gomes, separated by just a single grid position. The title continues to be challenged by Fahn Thomas, Rafael Iwata, Brian Fairley, Mark Carty, Bruno Chacon, Joao Botelho De Sousa, Luís Almeida, Paulo Neto, Norman Bruce, Carl Schulz, and Jason Whited as well. The Top 5 places are an open battleground for 13 drivers in the running with four races remaining.
