07 Oct 2016 — Luís Almeida took sixth place in the WEP2 class in the Silverstone 2011 Multiclass in the opening round of the Virtual Le Mans Series.
Driving the Zytek Z11SN, Almeida traded positions multiple rounds with Norman Bruce in a lengthy and determined battle for fifth starting midway through, passing each other three times over a range of 17 laps. Almeida ran nearly equal parts leading Bruce after being caught by him on lap 6. Almeida fended off an extended attack by Bruce midway through, staying just a straightaway ahead of him over a solid run of eight laps. Ultimately Almeida lost the spot on lap 22 and settled into sixth the lap running to the conclusion.
Virtual Le Mans Series moves on to Round 2 in two weeks at Imola ’94. The series has 14 drivers competing for points in the multiclass championships.
Fahn Thomas leads the WEGTE class championship in a tight campaign over Tim Weller, separated by just a few grid positions. The title continues to be challenged by Tobias Mueller, Scott Ring, Mark Carty, Roberto Boniotti, Jason Whited, and Nuno Gaiteira as well. The Top 5 places are an open battleground for eight drivers in the running with five races remaining.
Ricardo Gomes leads the WEP2 class championship in a tight campaign over Porfirio Dias Santos, separated by just a few grid spots. The title continues to be challenged by Bruno Chacon, Rafael Iwata, Norman Bruce, and Luís Almeida as well. The Top 5 places are an open ring for six drivers in the running with five races remaining.
