20 Jul 2016 — Luís Almeida took fifth place in the Spielberg Short Boxer in Round 2 of the Boxer Cup [Euro] series.
Almeida traded positions with Anton Markevich in a drawn-out fight for fifth starting midway through, fighting over a span of 29 laps. Almeida drove nearly all leading Markevich after being caught by him on the fourth lap. After losing the spot on lap 17, Almeida cleared Markevich and into fifth place on lap 21, and controlled it the remaining 11 laps to the checkered flag.
Almeida is sixth in the standings for the series. He has one start and finished as high as fifth.
Boxer Cup [Euro] series moves on to Round 3 in a week at a circuit to be named. The series has seven drivers competing for points in the championship.
Colin Barker leads the championship in a tight campaign over Simon Swarbrick, separated by just a few grid positions. The title continues to be challenged by Matt Kirby, Arjen Weidman, Ed Jones, Luís Almeida, and Anton Markevich as well. The Top 5 places are an open battleground for seven drivers in the running with five races remaining.
