10 Aug 2016 — Luís Almeida captured fourth place in the Ruapuna Raceway Gordini in Round 7 of the Renault R8 Gordini Cup series.
Almeida took the fight back and forth with Luis Fernandes in a long and persistent battle for fourth from the beginning, running within car lengths of each other over a span of 19 laps and changing positions five times. Almeida drove the majority leading Fernandes after catching and passing him on the second lap. Almeida fended off an extended attack by Fernandes in the beginning, staying just car lengths ahead of him over an unbroken run of eight laps. After losing the spot on lap 15, Almeida got around Fernandes for the third time and into fourth place on lap 16, and kept it the remaining few laps to the conclusion.
Almeida remains in sixth in the standings, cutting the gap to fifth’s Simon Swarbrick to one point. Almeida has six starts and finished as high as fourth.
