07 Sep 2016 — Luís Almeida captured fifth place in the Norisring Aquila in Round 2 of the Aquila CR1 Sports GT series.
Almeida swapped leads with Ed Jones in a drawn-out fight for fifth from the beginning, fighting over a span of 32 laps. Almeida drove the majority pursuing Jones after targeting him on the second lap. Ultimately Almeida settled into fifth through attrition the dozen laps running to the conclusion.
Almeida remains in second in the standings, increasing the lead over rival Fabio Pereira to 10 points. Almeida has two starts and finished as high as second.
Aquila CR1 Sports GT series moves on to Round 3 in a week at a circuit to be named. The series has seven drivers competing for points in the championship.
Ken Jagger leads the championship in a tight campaign over Luís Almeida, separated by just a handful of grid positions. The title continues to be challenged by Fabio Pereira, Junior França, Vinicius Perigolo, Ed Jones, and Pablo Rangel as well. The Top 5 places are an open ring for seven drivers in the running with three races remaining.
