02 Jun 2016 — Rasa Djordjevic raced past the checkered flag a narrow 0.083 seconds ahead of Simon Swarbrick to take fourth place in the Autopolis GP Abarth500 in the opening round of the Thursday night Abarth madness series.
Djordjevic spent the majority of five laps total leading Lazaros Filippakos after being caught by him on the third lap. Ultimately Djordjevic settled into fourth the nine laps running to the finish, holding off Swarbrick by the narrow margin at the line.
In the 10 career runs taken by Djordjevic in the Abarth 500, he has led 34 laps in all and taken the victory twice.
Michele Boffelli started on the pole and led every lap on the way to a commanding victory.
Boffelli ran all of 10 laps total leading Lazaros Filippakos after being caught by him on the first lap. Boffelli controlled the race lead every lap from start to victory.
Joe Cannarozzo raced past the checkered flag a razor-thin 0.097 seconds ahead of Ricardo Turon to take seventh place.
Cannarozzo swapped leads with Ricardo Turon in a long and tense battle for seventh in the late stages, running within a scrape of each other over a stretch of 12 laps. Cannarozzo spent the majority leading Turon after being engaged by him on the fourth lap. Cannarozzo fended off a prolonged challenge by Turon midway through, staying just an apex ahead of him over a continuous run of seven laps. After losing the spot on lap 11, Cannarozzo got around Turon and into seventh place on lap 13, and defended it against pressure by Turon the remaining three laps to the exhilarating finish.
Thursday night Abarth madness series moves on to Round 2 in a week at Primring GP. The series has 22 drivers competing for points in the championship.
Lazaros Filippakos took second place.
Filippakos spent the majority of five laps total pursuing Rasa Djordjevic after targeting him on the third lap, coming from as many as three spots back. Filippakos passed Djordjevic and into second place on lap 7, and kept it the remaining eight laps to the finish.
Simon Swarbrick captured fifth place.
Mark Carty took third place.
Swarbrick spent the majority of 13 laps total leading Porfirio Dias Santos after catching and passing him on lap 7, coming from as many as six places back. Swarbrick passed Dias Santos and into fifth place on lap 7, and defended it against pressure by Dias Santos the remaining nine laps to the checkered flag.
Murat Ozsarac raced past the checkered flag a hairline 0.037 seconds ahead of Csaba Lakó to take 10th place.
Carty drove the majority of 15 laps total pursuing Lazaros Filippakos after being caught and passed by him on the fourth lap. In the end Carty settled into third the nine laps running to the conclusion.
Ozsarac ran all of nine laps total pursuing Dane Van Pelt after catching him on the first lap, coming from as many as 11 places back. Ozsarac launched a prolonged challenge at Van Pelt in the middle stages, staying within a turn behind him and gaining ground over a solid run of seven laps. Ultimately Ozsarac settled into 10th the few laps running to the checkered flag, holding off Lakó by the narrow margin at the line.
Karol Piekara made a final pass on the last lap for a 15th-place finish.
Ricardo Turon won eighth place.
