03 Jul 2016 — From the sixth spot on the starting grid, Lazaros Filippakos worked through the field of six to claim second place at the finish in the Norisring Marcas in the opening round of the Copa Petrobras de Marcas series.
Filippakos drove the majority of 39 laps total leading Simon Swarbrick after being caught by him on the fourth lap. Driving the Mitsubishi Lancer, Filippakos fended off a prolonged challenge by Swarbrick in the beginning, staying just a straightaway ahead of him over a solid run of 26 laps. Ultimately Filippakos lost the spot on lap 30 and settled into second the 13 laps running to the conclusion.
Copa Petrobras de Marcas series moves on to Round 2 in a week at a track to be announced. The series has six drivers competing for points in the championship.
Simon Swarbrick leads the championship in a tight campaign over Lazaros Filippakos, separated by just a couple grid spots. The title continues to be challenged by Ricardo Gomes, David Russo, Luís Almeida, and Sebastian Miranda as well. The Top 5 places are an open battleground for six drivers in the running with seven races remaining.
