29 Oct 2016 — Joao Botelho De Sousa captured second place in the WEP2 class in the Sebring Int’l ’70 Multiclass in Round 5 of the G.E.A.R. Test races DNF series 50 procent damage.
Botelho De Sousa spent the majority of 11 laps total pursuing Scott Ring after targeting him on the fourth lap. Botelho De Sousa launched a prolonged challenge at Ring midway through, staying within a straightaway behind him and keeping pace over an unbroken run of nine laps. Botelho De Sousa passed Ring and into second place on lap 13, and kept it the remaining lap to the finish.
Botelho De Sousa is seventh in the WEP2 class standings for the series. He has one start and finished as high as second.
G.E.A.R. Test races DNF series 50 procent damage moves on to Round 6 in a week at Sachsenring 67. The series has 38 drivers competing for points in the multiclass championships.
John Van Der Geest leads the WEP1 class championship. The title continues to be challenged by Tobias Mueller, Alvaro Real, Csaba Lakó, and Marcos Junior. The Top 5 places are an open battleground for 14 drivers in the running with two races remaining.
Ville Hartikainen leads the WEP2 class championship in a tight campaign over Rafael Iwata, separated by just a handful of finishing positions. The title continues to be challenged by Alex Freitas, Porfirio Dias Santos, Len Venne, Toni Talvitie, Joao Botelho De Sousa, and Javier Manzanares as well. The Top 5 places are an open battleground for 14 drivers in the running with two races remaining.
The top spot in the WEGTE class is owned by Fahn Thomas, but the remaining places in the Top 5 are an open field for 13 drivers in the running. Paul Anstey, Alaoui Nassim, Mark Carty, Gary Murray, and Marcos Landa are all within one race of the current podium.
