10 Nov 2016 — Bruno Rizzo took 11th place in the Barbagallo Raceway BTCC in the opening round of the Australasian Touring Car Championship series.
Rizzo swapped leads with Luis Fernandes in a short and fervent battle for fourth from the middle stages, running within a couple turns of each other for three laps and two position changes. Driving the Ford Focus BTCC, Rizzo drove the majority leading Fernandes after being caught by him on lap 9. After losing the spot on lap 10, Rizzo passed Fernandes and into sixth place on lap 11, and controlled it another few laps toward the conclusion before retiring early due to suspension trouble.
Australasian Touring Car Championship series moves on to Round 2 in two weeks at Symmons Plains. The series has 12 drivers competing for points in the championship.
Rui Santos leads the championship in a tight campaign over Manuel Alves, separated by just a couple finishing positions. The title continues to be challenged by Luca Sarassi, Paul Anstey, Sergio Gallardo, Mark Craggs, Nick Phillips, Prawira Jalu, Bruno Rizzo, Juan Puyo, Luis Fernandes, and Salvatore Montella as well. The Top 5 places are an open field for 12 drivers in the running with eight races remaining.
