21 Jun 2016 — April Dillon won fifth place in the Montreal Gp FR14 in the opening round of the Formula Renault 3.5 series.
Dillon drove equal parts of 20 laps total leading Lorenzo Donati after being engaged by him on the fourth lap. Dillon fended off an extended attack by Donati in the early stages, staying just car lengths ahead of him over a solid run of 10 laps. In the end Dillon lost the spot on lap 14 and settled into fifth the dozen laps running to the conclusion.
Formula Renault 3.5 series moves on to Round 2 in a week at Barber Motorsports Park. The series has 12 drivers competing for points in the championship.
Michele Boffelli leads the championship in a tight campaign over Matej Dakskobler, separated by just a few grid positions. The title continues to be challenged by Lorenzo Donati, Rui Santos, April Dillon, Xavier Eugeni, Toni Talvitie, Jari Bruppacher, Porfirio Dias Santos, Sido Weijer, Mattia Gullini, and Antonio Borba as well. The Top 5 places are an open ring for 12 drivers in the running with five races remaining.
